Being able to travel more is one of the biggest motivators when it comes to getting your finances in order. You can ask almost anyone what’s on their bucket list and they’ll most likely mention international travel, adventures with loved ones, or relaxing on the beach. New experiences are one of the sweetest parts of life, but it does require at least a little bit of money!

In this episode I’m joined by Shelly Hawkins from The Eclectic Voyager to share all of her best advice + tips for traveling on a budget. Plus, she’ll also share some stories from her adventures, her favorite travel resources, + how she’s able to merge travel, photography, + personal finance into her blogs.

In this episode, Sami + Shelly talk about:

  • How Shelly got into Traveling + Personal Finance

  • Shelly’s Bucket List Travels

  • Our favorite stories from our travels

  • Tips for Flights + Hotel Stays on a budget

  • Travel Hacking with + without a credit card

  • Tips for traveling on a super strict budget

  • How to travel during your debt-free journey

  • How to learn to love where you live

  • About her co-authored book, Not Another Money Statistic

Memorable Quotes:

“Knowing how to manage your money helps to buy you freedom.” -Shelly

“These things are possible, you don’t have to be rich, you just have to be strict with yourself.” -Shelly

“Just from the little bit of travel that I’ve done…that’s where it’s at, that’s living, that’s life…being in those experience.” -Sami

book review

Teaching your kids about personal finance isn’t always the easiest thing to do, especially if you’ve made your own fair share of financial mistakes. Most schools don’t include budgeting + personal finance in their standard curriculum, so it’s up to us as parents of the next generation to educate them the best we can.
...but where do we start?

Thanks to Alli Rosenblum + Shelly Hawkins we have a great new resource, Not Another Money Statistic: Lessons We Wish We Learned in High School. This book is a MUST READ for any teenager, parent of a teenager, or honestly any beginning budgeter.
